Reading Books Aloud
Challenge your Child to understand new vocabulary and more complicated plots
For many, positive childhood memories include cuddling up to mom and dad and listening to them read stories aloud. This is a practice that toddlers across America experience regularly. This is also a practice that tends to disappear as children get older. Often busy schedules and different interests are to blame. The attached article: Why We Should Continue To Read Aloud to Older Children gives a variety of positive reasons to continue the practice of reading aloud into their teenage years.
Reading books aloud that are at a higher reading level than the student can read challenges them to understand new vocabulary and more complicated plots. Children hear stories better than they can read them. Listening to stories will motivate them to challenge themselves with new and more difficult books.
